KetosisFrom: Faith (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 6 Jan 2003 22:31:16 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I have a few quick questions. I am 36 weeks pregnant with my first child and am considered low-risk. For the past two months I have been trying to cut back on my carb intake. I resently heard that doing so can cause a condition called ketosis and this can in turn cause damage to my baby. Okay, on the the questions 1) why would ketones hurt the baby...do not women in Alaska eat mostlt protien and have heathly babies? 2)I tested my urine for ketosis and am indeed in ketosis. Since I have been cutting out my carbs for about two months now, are my chances of having a baby with birth defects high? Thanks for your time!!
