'Quality' of babyFrom: Tracy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 5 Jan 2003 21:05:15 -0600 (CST)
Although I've tried to find the answer in many books on conception and pregnancy, I couldn't seem to find it. My question is: A baby conceived soon after intercourse (supposedly with a few hours after the ejaculation) and one which is conceived only when the sperm is about to die, is the latter of a poorer quality...in terms of health, mental development etc? I understand that other factors like the nutrition matter too. But supposedly everything else remains constant, does the "age" of the sperm (ie the time it has been in the woman's boby) affect the quality? I had conceived a baby after having unprotected sex on day 6 and with condom (and spermicide) on day 9 and 11. I don't understand how it happened. Either it was conceived from the sperm on day 6 (which means a survival of 8 days or more!) Or accidentally from day 9 or 11, even with the condom and spermicide on. I've been recording my basal temp for half a year...i have a typical 28 day cycle. My concern now is that if the baby is conceived when the sperm is not so strong..maybe about to die....does it contribute to a weaker child?
