Re: Is masturbating during pregnantcy okay?From: akachan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 31 Dec 2002 04:45:55 -0600 (CST)
Actually, I think this is a valid question. There are woman who have "high risk" pregnancies and are told not to have sex with their husbands during the "high risk" period. Being one of these "high risk" pregnancies, it is my understanding that it is not just penetration and the possibility of cervical friction and/or infection that is the reason for these prohibition, but also the fact that orgasms cause the uterus to contract. Therefore, if you have been directed by your doctor to not have sexual intercourse, I believe that would include masturbation or any sexual activity that could cause you to orgasm. However, if your pregnancy is normal than there is nothing to worry about. I am not a doctor, but this has been the advice given to me. Though I woould be curious to hear from a Doctor on this topic.
