Not a doc, but from my reading (I also had a luteal phase defect), 6 months is the usual maximum for Clomid. You would be monitored every month to see if the Clomid has helped achieve ovulation or improved luteal phase progesterone, and the dosage will be ramped up if there are still signs of a poor luteal phase.
