It is common to have a cord wrapping around the neck and usually there is no concern. Babies do a lot of turning and that can sometimes happen. However, if you are concerned I encourage you to pull a meeting with your OB and discuss your concerns. I firmly believe in my patients taking a proactive position when it comes to their health. You need to ask as many questions as needed to make you feel good about the situation to eleviate any concerns. If there was real concern about a constricted umbilical, we can easily do a doppler on the umbilical to look at blood flow. I encourage you to not sit on the side lines and wonder. It is your responsibility to be fully informed and I say this out of caring. Too many times I have seen patients who do not question things that don't seem right and perhaps a more positive outcome could of occured. Remember, we may be doctors, but we don't know EVERYTHING. It is our job to do the best we can based on our knowledge and resourcefulness. I hope this helps. So please contact your OB right away and have this problem disussed. You should not have another moments worry. Dr. Fedde
