25 weeks with short and funneling cervixFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 28 Dec 2002 10:59:33 -0600 (CST)
My first pregnancy my water broke at 35 weeks 6 days. I arrived at the hospital soon after, 1 cm dilated, 50 effaced. I was started on a low dose of Pitocin and delivered my healthy son 7 hours later (actual delivery took only 5 pushes in 10 minutes). I became pregnant 11 months later. At 20 weeks my cervix measured 3.0cm transabdominally. At 24 weeks my cervix was noted to be 2.5cm by transvaginal ultrasound. Now at 25 weeks, by transvaginal ultrasound, it measured 2.9 cm. When asked to cough and "push" it measured 2.7 with "mild funneling." My doctor will continue weekly ultrasounds. She also put me on total bedrest and wants me to start the medication to prophylactically stop contractions (can't think of the name, starts with a t), even though I haven't been having more than one or two a day, not anywhere close to one another. What would you recommend as the best course of treatment for me??? I really, really need a second opinion. What are my chances for a healthy, full-term or at least close to term delivery this time??? What would happen if we wanted to get pregnant one more time--would we be at risk for a troubled pregnancy??? Help!
