Scott, As Katya said, no need to worry. If your wife is feeling the symptoms of pregnancy, her hcg levels are fine, and there was an embryo on the ultrasound, everything will probably be ok. But here's an explanation for the dates being different. There are two dating methods in the medical field. One is based on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Your wife would have been 8 weeks on December 24th according to this method. The entire pregnancy is said to last 40 weeks. There is also a calculation used called gestational age. This one is based on the date of conception (roughly 14 days after LMP in a 28 day cycle). The duration of a pregnancy using this method is 38 weeks. Most ultrasound techs use this method. Your wife would have been 6 weeks on December 24th with the date of conception being November 12th. As you can see both methods correspond with the date you gave. Your wife is 8 weeks from LMP and 6 weeks gestation. Again, try not to worry (though it's natural to worry, believe me! lol) Best wishes!

P.S. As for the bleeding, since it was brown (considered "old blood"), could have been from implantation bleeding, an exam (such as a vaginal ultrasound or a pelvic exam), or from intercourse from a few days before. This "old blood" is usually considered normal in the first trimester.

Hi, My wife and I got pregnant using the temperature checking technique. Her last men. Period was October 29. We performed a HPT on Nov. 30th andit was slightly positive. Since then we have taken 4 more HPT's and they are very very positive. She started having some brown discharge a week or so ago, it was not accompanied by any cramping or pain, and none of it was red blood, all brown. He breats hurt and she has nausea. She called the Doctor and we felt like we were getting the run around. The Dr. kept saying don't worry. Well we kept calling until they decided to do
