ttc and possible yeast infectionFrom: Abby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Dec 2002 16:26:25 -0600 (CST)
I am ttc and due to ovulate in about 7 to 10 days. I have never had a yeast infection before, but I did have bacterial vaginosis last month for the first time and was treated with Metro Gel for five days around the time of my period. My period just started today (probably unrelated), but I have been feeling vaginal itching for the past few days particularly a few hours after intercourse (definitely not an std). I have never really had vaginal itching before except for last month and this month around the time of my period - I am recently off of the pill. I have had a little discharge, but no fishy odor like last time. I was able to speak quickly to a nurse at my gyn's office and she suggested taking Monistat 3 day in case it is a yeast infection since I won't be able to see the doctor until Jan. 6th due to the holidays. When I spoke to the pharmacist, she said that Monistat can last in my vagina for 7-10 days, which is when I am due to ovulate. Would this leftover Monistat cause any interference with conception? The itching is not constant, so I could probably live with it until I see the doctor, but I have also heard that any vaginal infection can interfere with conception. Do you have any suggestions about what I should do to try to maximize my chances to conceive this month? Thank you so much! Abby
