Re: How do I know if I have endometriosis??From: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 23 Dec 2002 16:49:08 -0600 (CST)
Jennifer, The only way to diagnose endometriosis is through laparoscopic surgery. A doctor can suspect endo and attempt to treat it but it doesn't show up on ultrasounds because it is microscopic tissue. I suffered from pain for 9 years (since I started my period at age 10) and was just treated with pain relievers, all the doctors I saw said I was too young. Low and behold in April my new doctor did a laparoscopy and my abdomen was FULL of adhesions and scar tissue. Do you have any other symptoms? Next time you see your obgyn, ask about the possiblity of endo and be persistant if you have pain. The pain could very well be something else too. Good luck!
