26 weeks and preterm laborFrom: Suzanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 22 Dec 2002 19:04:19 -0600 (CST)
Hello, My friend who is 26 weeks pregnant just went into preterm labor 3 days ago. Her cervix had dilated and effaced (dilated to 3-4 cm). She was having contractions every 3 minutes. Then, they gave her a drug (tributane, maybe?) to stop her contractions. After 3 times giving her this drug, her contractions slowed to every 7 minutes, and finally have almost stopped (after 2 days). Her baby was given a steroid shot to develop her lungs as well. She is now at home on bedrest for the remainder of her pregnancy, with close monitoring. I have 2 questions: 1) What are the chances she will make it to term, or at least to 32 weeks, and 2) If she does end up having this baby very soon, what are the chances of the baby's survival? Thanks.
