friend had false hpt until 8 weeks, miscarriageFrom: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 10 Dec 2002 20:52:39 -0600 (CST)
I have a friend who suspected she was pregnant but test after test, it came back negative. Two weeks after she was supposed to get her period, she went to the doctor's and the urine came back negative and they referred her to an ob-gyn for a follow up to figure out the problem. She couldn't get an appointment with the obgyn until december. After 4 more weeks of home tests, she finally got a positive result. She called her doctor and went in for blood work. From the blood work, she measured about 8 weeks. She had an ultrasound scheduled for the next week but started bleeding and cramping. Her doctor said that she was having a miscarriage and for her to come in later that week for a check up. This was in October. Her period was due last week but she suspects that she is pregnant again but all home tests are coming back negative. She called her doctor and is going in for blood work on Thursday. I was just wondering, why wouldn't the tests, especially the really sensitive ones, come back positive until so late in the pregnancy? And the way her doctor handled things, is this routine? Thanks in advance to any replies!
