Years ago I did about 9 cycles of clomid without success (just ovarian cysts). Then did 3 GIFT cycles with pergonal and metrodin. Hyperstimulated on first cycle and got very ill and almost had to be hospitalized. Fast forward to 2000. Did a clomid challenge test. After one ultrasound and some blood work to see if I had reacted to the clomid, they sent me on my merry way and said see you in a couple of months. Well, about a week and a half later I was miserable. Went to my regular doc because I had abdomenal pain who sent me to an obgyn for u/s. Turned out I hyperstimulated (huge ovaries with cysts) on the clomid. Doc was shocked as he looked at my ovaries because he said what he was seeing wasn't supposed to happen on 50mg clomid. Clomid stimulates the pituitary gland which then stimulates ovary and is harder to control. Repronex directly stimulates ovary and so stimulation can be controled by dosing size of meds. With Repronex I had daily ultrasounds and blood tests to watch hormone levels and ovary size. First cycle of repronex, I started to stimulated to fast so they had to back off the meds. No success. Second cycle they started meds at lower doses gradually increasing which caused a better stimulation and less trauma to my ovaries. Have beautiful 5 month old son from that cycle. Personally (and with 10 cycles of clomid, 3 with pergonal and metrodin, 2 with repronex I have a bit of experience) I think if you hyperstimulate with clomid, you are better of with something like repronex or follistim as it is easier for the docs to control. Costs more of course, but well worth it in my case. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll answer if I can. Good luck! L
