Re: Lorazepam and pregnancy

I'm not a doctor, but I've had the same issues you have. I know how stressful it can be to go through anxiety and worry about your baby's health at the same time.

Most doctors advise against the use of benzodiazepines during pregnancy. When my doctor backed me off of Lorazepam, I was told to half the dosage I was on one week at a time. For example, if you're taking 2mg 4x a day (8mg total), you might want to try taking half of those 2mg pills instead of the whole thing at each time. (8mg a day sounds like an astounding amount of that drug...0.5 once a day works for me.) Be careful in stopping too quickly, because of it's anti-seizure properties, stopping abruptly can lead to seizures. And other issues.

Feeling some anxiety as you stop taking Lorazepam is normal...try not to let it get to you. Lots of techniques for anxiety reduction are available and work very well. Additionally, Zoloft can be quite an effective anxiety controller...so this should help immensely.

If you need to talk to someone who's been there, need some suggestions for dealing with this medication-free, feel free to e-mail me at anacyde@hotmail.com
