A heartshaped, or bicornuate, uterus is one in whcih the two halves of the uterus did not fuse completely. A septate uterus is one where the halves fused, but the middle section did not reabsorb completely -- it is easier to understand if your doc draws a picture. Both can be corrected, the septated uterus is easier to fix, and removing the septum can improve pregnancy outcome. Both can be diagnosed by saline infusion ultrasound or MRI
