Hemophilus Influenza- Question for drFrom: Darcie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Nov 2002 21:19:27 -0600 (CST)
Hello again, I am 14 weeks pregnant. I've been sick for the last 3 weeks with cough, sore throat that's now turned into a sinus infection with bloody mucous. Initially the dr. prescribed erythromycin. Now my sputum test result is back and it's hemophilus influnenza bacteria. The walk in dr prescribed azithromycin, said to discontinue the eryhtromycin. When I inquired at the pharmacy, they recommended that I DON'T fill the prescription until I talk to my prenatal dr. on tuesday. I researched hemophilus online and found it to be the leading bacterial cause of meningitis, respiratory infection, and sepsis. I'm just confused as to what is the best route to take- even more antibiotics? Or, contiune to fight it on my own (which, apparently I've been doing anyway, given that hemophilus is not sensitive to erythromycin)? I have gotten much better though not entirely- sore throat is almost gone, have mostly sinus congestion and pressure in my ears- can't hear very well. Any thoughts to help get me through the next few days would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you so much, darcie
