Question regarding Ultrasound at 19 weeksFrom: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 22 Nov 2002 17:36:42 -0600 (CST)
Today I had my first ultrasound of my 19 week old baby. Everything seemed extremely healthy (thank goodness), and the baby is very active. During the exam, I asked the technician if we could have the gender checked. Miraculously she could get behind the baby (from a rear-end view) and the baby was spread-eagle. From behind, there was nothing resembling a scrotum, penis or testes. Then she made her way over top of the baby's bladder and the legs were partially spread. She checked the gender from that position and still didn't see anything resembling a penis, scrotum or testes. My husband said he thought he could make out a slight labia. But with these tests not being 100% accurate, I don't know what to think. I was so excited knowing I was having a girl, but I'm afraid to get my hopes up. Since most women say that a small "bump" (the penis) is viewable from those angles even at 16 weeks, should I assume I'm having a girl?
