38w and listeria ? -- dr. please

Hi,

I am 38 weeks pregnant with my first child. Today I had a sandwich with turkey cold cuts from a local deli. I know that deli meats are not advised in pregancy, and for the most part I have avoided them, but I thought that by this point, the danger from food-borne illnesses had basically passed. However, a friend told me that, in fact, the danger from listeria is at its greatest now (at the end of pregnancy). I looked it up on the web, and am now scared to death about stillbirth or neonate death ... please, what are the real risks from one serving of deli meat? Is listeria that widespread? And even if I were exposed, would I be doomed to get it? Would I even know if I got it? Do I need to contact my doctor about this?

Please, any advice would be welcome. I am a nervous wreck about this now.

Thanks in advance.
