38w and 100% effaced

I am 38w pregnant with #1 and on examination today the dr. found me to be 100% effaced, 1-2 cm dilated, and with the baby at 0 station. One week ago, I was 90% effaced, 1 cm dilated, with baby at 0 station.

My question is, how can I be 100% effaced and NOT in labor (it sounds like there's no cervix left to hold the baby in!)?

Anyway, does this suggest I'm likely to deliver soon? I am SO ready to have this baby... :-)
