Breastfeeding via pumpFrom: Patricia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 12 Nov 2002 16:55:55 -0600 (CST)
My son was born 3 weeks early. Although he was 9lb. 2 oz. he shows clear signs of a preemie. He does not latch on (working with a lactation consultant to help me), he has a poor/no suck reflex and I am having to pump to give him breastmilk via the bottle. I am offering the breast at every feed and working on that end of it, the question I have is that my left breast is so much bigger than my right one and it produces way more milk. My right breast does not have much engorgement no matter how much time I allow go by before pumping (2 hours v. 6 hours). I have a double Medela electric pump so I know that I am pumping the same amount of time on each breast. I get 4 ozs on the left side and maybe squeeze 2 ozs on right side. My biggest issue is that I no longer leak milk when Maxwell cries, I used to just drip from both breasts at 3 hour intervals. Do I have a blocked duct? Is this normal? Any advise is greatly appreciated.
