Risks of bactrim during pregnancy

I am 12 weeks pregnant and my doctor's office has just prescribed Bactrim for a UTI they found on a routine urine culture. I have never had a UTI before that I know of and I have no symptoms that I am aware of. The prescription came with a warning about taking when pregnant, and on searching the forums here I see that some doctors would not choose Bactrim during pregnancy. My questions are, What exactly are the risks of taking Bactrim during pregnancy? What are the alternatives to Bactrim, and is there some reason my doctor would prescribe this for a first time UTI if there are risks during pregnancy? I have had lots of trouble getting and staying pregnant so I am very worried about any risks to the pregnancy. Thanks.
