postpartum healingFrom: kimberly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 Nov 2002 06:53:32 -0600 (CST)
good morning, i am nearly 4 mos postpartum and have still not healed completely at the site of a tear. i have been seeing my obgyn about this and this is what she has told me... apparently the area just inside the vagina where the stitches have dissolved is still red and appear as a "fissure". she examed me to see if this area was open through to the rectum and it did not appear to. i do not have any pain unless my dh and i attempt penatration which is unbearable and i notice no discharge. my doc 1st recommended trying a regimen of desitin, monostat, and estrace cream applied to the area several times per day. i also use the estrace cream 2x/wk for dryness due to breastfeeding and it has been helpful for that. after a month of this routine, i went back and it still was not healed. yesterday she said she was at a loss for a reason and suggested trying to use either (sorry i forget which she said now) silver or sodium nitrate to eliminate the top layer of skin and promote regrowth. i'm suppose to go back next week to see if this is helping but i'm scared she will tell me otherwise. i'm even more scared she will say there's nothing to do now but just wait and see if it heals on its own. please, if you have any suggestions, i would definitely appreciate them. thank you, kimberly
