I'm not sure about Washington, but here in CA - you can start your state disability no questions asked 4 weeks before your due date and 6 weeks after you deliver. BUT, if there is a medical reason for starting prior to 4 weeks, all you need is a dr.'s signature for the disability. You really need to evaluate your priorities - no job is worth a premature or God-forbid a loss of a baby. I think you understand that. If you aren't having complications, can't you just reduce to a normal 40 hour week or less? I worked up until the day I delivered with my daughter, but I was able to work the last two weeks from home and it was only 40 hours. Being on call and working 55-75 hours a week is a completely different story. Ask your dr. - he should know what to do to get you the time off or hours that you physically need.
