Ativan and pregnancyFrom: Melisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 Nov 2002 18:11:27 -0600 (CST)
I take Ativan 0.5 mg once a day for severe restless legs syndrome and occasional panic attacks. I have heard conflicting reports on how Ativan effects an unborn child. People have suggested switching to something else in place of benzodiazepines, but I have frequent and severe allergic reactions. I am terrified to introduce another possible allergen into my system during pregnancy or otherwise. In fact, I have not been able to try ANY new medication in the past three years without a severe allergic reactions, and I seem to even be developing reactions to medications I was previously safe to take, including penecillin. As physicians, how would you treat a pregnant patient with this perplexing problem? (I am 25, if that is relevant.)
