Cervical Cysts/Fibroids during PregnancyFrom: jw (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 Oct 2002 14:38:56 -0600 (CST)
I have a question concerning cysts. I am 7 months pregnant and was diagnosed with uterine fibroids early on. While performing ultrasounds to track the fibroids, a very large cyst was also discovered, which was initially thought to be on my left ovary. Because of the size of the cyst, the doctors recommended surgery in my 5 month. After performing surgery they realized it was not on my left ovary. After a unsuccessful surgery they performed an MRI. The MRI showed the cyst was in the lower pelvic region near the cervix. The cyst measures 16cm in length, 9.5 cm in anteroposterior dimension and over 11 cm in transverse dimension. The cyst is indented by my sacrum. I have some complications due to the cyst including pain during bowel movements and slight pain during urination. The doctors seem baffled as to what type of cyst it is and how to treat it. Due to the pregnancy they are unwilling to attempt to remove it again. My question is, have you seen this type of cyst before and what type of treatment is suggested? How do you determine if this is even a Nabothian cyst or a Gartner's duct cyst? One doctor mentioned the treatment would be a hysterectomy. This seems a very drastic approach as I am 33 and having our first child. We would like the opportunity to have at least another child in coming years. I have been told that I will require a c-section because one of the 7 fibroids is blocking my cervix. It seems to me that they could remove the cyst at that time. They are reluctant to discuss treatment at this time however. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
