Re: 5w5d, high hcg and no yolk in growing sacFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Oct 2002 12:03:28 -0500 (CDT)
I know what you are going through. Although my experience is far from typical I thought I would share it with you anyway. I was being monitored very closely because of prior m/c's. At 5w5d we saw only a gestational sac. At 6w3d I went to the ER because of severe pain. HCG was over 35,000 but still just a gestational sac, no sign of a yolk sac much less a baby or heartbeat. They saw a mass on my ovary though and diagnosed an ectopic. I went through surgery and had my ovary removed. A week later at a followup u/s there was a perfect 7w3d embryo with a strong heartbeat. I am now 22 weeks and doing great. So it is possible to only see a gestational sac at your stage and still go on to have a successful pg. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is wait. Hopefully a follow up u/s will be completely normal. Good luck.
