Re: 21 weeks pregnant and not hungry..From: Katya (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Oct 2002 08:10:55 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Joelene, You actually don't have to be hungry to eat fruits and veggies - they don't fill you up the same way ice cream and rice does. Now is the season for apples, pears, and mangoes - they look absolutely delicious in the store. What I am about to write is not meant to scare you, but just to show you that what you eat is the most important thing you can do for your baby right now. In "What to expect when you're expecting", a study is sited indicating that people with excellent diets have a 95% chance of bringing a healthy baby to the world, while people with poor diets only have a 8% chance. So all the other things - good genes, healthy weight, exercise, work, whatever - are not nearly as important as WHAT YOU EAT WHEN YOU ARE PREGNANT. So see if you can't add an apple to your diet in the morning, a pear for lunch, a banana and a glass of milk for a snack, and a salad with spinach leaves and a large tomato in the evening. It will be a good start. Oh, and definitely keep taking those vitamins! Also, if you are not getting 4 equivalents of calcium in your diet a day (1 bowl of ice cream + 3 tall glasses of milk), I would look into a calcium supplement - they are very cheap and will help you keep your teeth while giving the baby healthy bones. Best wishes to you,
-- Katya
