For the woman concerned about Thyroid antibodies while pregnant, please read! From: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:23:58 -0500 (CDT)
Hi! I have hashimotos as well. It has been 3 years since i last gave birth and i just found out about these antibodies because of a recurrent miscarraige workup i had. I had to request my doctor for the ATA test, anti thyroid antibodies, and whereas antibodies are supposed to be under 2, mine were 70! My TSH was 4.20, technically still normal. But i went to an endo and she put me on 50 MCG's of synthroid and within 6 weeks my TSH was under 1. But the important news i wanted to share with you that YOU need to know is this! There is a well published study that shows that if you take 200 mcg's of SELENIUM a day you can possibly revert to a negative status with regards to the antibodies! Here is the link to the study. As soon as i read it 6 weeks ago i have taken the selenium and so has my best friend, my doctor's wife! lol She also has hashimotos and she has had 5 children with those antibodies, with no m/c's. I have had two very early m/c's at 5 weeks, but i dont think they were related to my thyroid condition. Read this link! And give it to your endo! Selenium is an antioxidant and very important for our thyroid. http://www.endo-society.org/pubrelations/summaries/XXIII_autoimmune.cfm. Good luck to you! This is a great link and a quick read. My doctor was VERY impressed! Ann
