21 day cycle - too short to conceive?From: maly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 8 Oct 2002 17:58:18 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I have been TTC for a year. Much of this year was very stressful (job searches for my husband and myself and a lot of travel, so basically, we haven’t always been in the same place to actually TTC). My cycles are 21 days. I had a few cycles in the middle of this year that were shorter (18-19 days) but in the last few months they've been consistently 21 days. I ovulate on day 10 or 11. I know that from my vaginal mucus. Because of my earlier very short cycles my doctor referred me to a fertility clinic. They have put me on Clomid for one cycle with 2 IUIs. I prefer avoiding intrusive procedures in the future if possible, so I asked to be taken off the Clomid and be monitored to see if I ovulate without it. The cycle monitoring has indicated that I indeed ovulate in day 10-11. The doctor also put me on progesterone suppositories. As far as I understand it, I have a lutheal phase of about 10-11 days. Can a woman with my cycle conceive without outside help (given that stress levels will be reduced soon…) Also, my husband’s first sperm analysis has showed motility of 61%, and a 30 million count. For 4-5 months, however, we are working in different cities, so we froze a couple of samples. The doctor said that the motility of the defrosted sperm was only 40%. Is there any use in doing an IUI with sperm with 40% motility or am I wasting my time with that. Any help would be greatly appreciated
