If you are exclusively breastfeeding (meaning your baby gets no bottles or other food - only breastmilk from you) then breastfeeding may be the reason you have not had a period. This condition is called lactational ammenorrhea and is quite normal. Theoretically you should not be able to get pregnant again until you have a period. However, the first time you ovulate you may be fertile but not aware of it (since ovulation will occur prior to your first period). If you absolutely do not want to achieve another pregnancy, another form of birth control would certainly be in order. You may want to have a pregnancy test as well to be sure that you are not already pregnant.
