Herniated Disc, MRI, and 2nd trimester pregnancyFrom: Temple (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Sep 2002 00:34:22 -0500 (CDT)
Through a complete exam by an orthopaedic surgeon I was diagnosed during my second trimester with a herniated or ruptured cervical disc. My symptoms continue to progress including weakness and numbness in both hands, terrible pain under my right shoulder blade, and an inablility to remain normally active due to the severity of the pain. However, I can decrease the pain by simply staying in bed. Physical therapy has not helped so far. My question is this: since I need prescription pain medication to deal with this condition, which is potentially more harmful? The medication throughout the pregnancy, or an MRI to further diagnose my condition which may lead to surgery? I have conflicting reports from my OB/GYN and my general practitioner and would appreciate another opinion.
