pregnancy and tranxeneFrom: kirsten (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 29 Sep 2002 20:06:47 -0500 (CDT)
I am under the care of a neurologist: I have been taking verapamil for a few years and a year ago added tranxene to control vertigo. Both products, in combination, work wonderfully and I haven't had an episode of vertigo in over a year. However, both my obgyn and neurologist would like to eventually see me come off of tranxene. The obgyn said it was a class D risk drug for pregnancy. I've tried to taper off of it but the vertigo comes back. I take 3.75mg twice per day. End of August, my obgyn advised me to think of children soon if I plan on having kids as I am almost 34. However, the tranxene concerned her as far as pregnancy goes. While I am truly not sure how it happened, I took a pregnancy test (3 tests actually) and it's positive (despite our religious use of birthcontrol). What are the risks associated with tranxene? The package insert for the bottle suggested a much higher dose than I am on. However, it also mentions birth defects.,etc associated with it. Can you enlighten me on the risk of this drug at the present dose? Thanks.
