Amnio is more accurate but it has a risk of miscarriage. If you aren't willing to terminate the pregnancy should the amnio come back with a genetic issue (Down's, etc) then there is no need to get one. AFP isn't real accurate (lots of false positives). Ask your Doc about nuchal fold measurements and other ultrasound procedures that can help evaluate your RISK of genetic abnormalities without risking the life of the baby. Only the amnio's genetic test can tell you for sure.
