Atenolol during pregnancy...From: Stephanie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Sep 2002 20:48:43 -0500 (CDT)
HELLO.... I have been searching the archives, and am now even more scaared about taking this med. during this pregnacy-I am 6w3days,and am taking 12.5 mg of atenolol for tachycardia. This is my second child (I am 28). With my first I tried to stay off the atenolol for the first trimester, but had to take it sporadically, and then eventually everyday starting at about 8 weeks. Without it my pulse would climb into the 130's daily, and the cardiologist said it was okay to take it,though it worried me to death. My daughter was born 7lbs. 4 oz and very strong and healthy. I thought that I read a difference of opinion on the atenolol in the archives, and was wanting a second opinion. My OB and cardiologist both said to take 12.5 daily from the beginning, but should I try to go without it to see how I react this time? I feel like I am letting this baby down if I don't try,and what if this one is not as strong as the last? I am so upset taking it,but will do whatever is best for baby-I noticed my heart beating harder the few days after I noticed implantation spotting, but is well maintained now, staying aroung 110 bpm or below. THANKS!!!!!
