If it is congestion and not infection I have 2 tricks that might work and don't involve medicine.

1) Use Ocean Spray (salt water) nasal inhaler. This will loosen all the mucous in your sinuses and nasal passage and help you to expel it (and hopefully unblock the eustacian tubes that go to your ears).

2) Drink an 8-10 oz glass of water all at once with one breath. I have a problem with pressure building up in my inner ear and causing horrible pain. An ENT told me doing this would relieve the pain caused by the pressure. It does work but is hard to do when you're congested.

Good Luck! I hope you feel better. I have bouts of horrible ear pain, especially at night I can't imagine having that pain for months.
