They need to check to see if you are healing correctly from the birth. Even if you sailed through delivery without stitches, etc., it is a bit of a trauma to the body that it would be good to be assured that all is well. And especially if you are breastfeeding, the doctor will want to make sure that is all well. I think it is important.
