My hubby is a neonatal nurse and this is what he says. Like the doctor said, 1000 grams is about where they like them to be to have a good chance at a healthy outcome. This would be approximately 28-29 weeks or over 2 pounds in weight. The typical cut-off for a premie is 500 grams. If a baby is born under 500 grams, typically it will not survive. This would be the ones born in the 24-25 week stage or that weight right at a pound.
