Tylenol PM & Unisom Safety during the pregnancyFrom: Griffith (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 11 Sep 2002 11:56:38 -0700
Hi, My name is Julee, and I am a 5 weeks pregnant woman. I have a chronic insomnia, and used to take prescription sleeping pills(Sonata & Trazadone). I have been off the pills for almost 5 months since my husband and I decided to have the second child, and my sleep has been improved. I've started to have sleeping difficulty again for a week now, and I started to take 'Benadryl' as a sleep aid. I was told by nurse that I could also take either Tylenol PM, or Unisom during the pregnancy. Last time, I took 2 tablets of Tylenol PM, but could not sleep. Less than 2 hours, I took one Unisom, and it helped me to fall asleep. I talked to my nurse this morning, and she said I should have not done it because she didn't know how these two different pills interactive together. Now I am officially freaked out. Please advise me if it was OK to take the Tylenol PM,and Unisom together for one time, or if there would be any harm to the baby because of this one time trial. I am so afraid there would be some birth defects on the baby because of this. I will really appreciate if you can respond to me ASAP. Thank you so much. --Julee
