Hi Chloe. I can't address the medical risks you're asking about, but I can talk about not lifting a toddler :). I have a 23 month old son and am in my third trimester. Several weeks ago my old back injury (L4-L5 disc herniation) started to flare up. I physically CAN NOT lift my son. It is very difficult but here are ways I get around it:

-he sleeps in a bed, not a crib, and has a step stool to get in and out. -if I have to feed him breakfast or lunch on the floor, instead of in his high chair, that's life. -he can use a step stool to climb into the car and I can kind of push him a little to help him into his seat, then I do the buckle for him. He can back out of the car at our destination - I use my knees to support him on the way down. -diaper changes can occur on the floor, same with clothing changes. -if he's really dirty and must be cleaned, I wet some paper towels or washcloth and wipe him down on the floor. -if he is crying "mommy up please" I will get down on the floor and hug him and explain I can't lift him but I can hug him on the floor. Sometimes he cries about it but what can I do?
