kidney stones-ongoing painFrom: Cristina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 17:53:50 -0500 (CDT)
I am 31 wks. along with my 3rd child. I have been hospitalized twice this pregnancy due to pain from kidney stones which has started premature labor. I have not passed a stone this pregnancy, only gravel. My ultrasound shows at least one stone in my left kidney which as of 2 weeks ago was not blocking anything. I did pass one stone with my last pregnancy. My question is why I still have continual pain in my left kidney? It's not the unbearable, throwing up pain which puts me in the hospital, but more of an ongoing pain that comes in waves, like a really terrible cramp which stops me in my path. This has been continuing since my release from the hospital 2 wks prior. There is very little info available re: kidney stones and pregnancy. Should I be feeling this pain 24 hours per day? I thought you would only feel the pain from a stone if it was moving or passing. Is it the pressure of the baby on my stone and kidney? I don't think anything is blocking as I have no trouble urinating. Any help is much appreciated-only 9 wks to go, but the ongoing pain makes it difficult, and the only answer I get it to take pain medication!!! Thx.
