Question for Dr. ShanahanFrom: mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 12:31:47 -0500 (CDT)
Hi! I just love your advice that you give here and you are always so caring to us on this board. I admire your compassion so much! Here is my question. I have a normal luteal phase of 13-14 days. I used crinone gel (due ot two early miscarriages) from two days post ovulation til today and tested negative on a hpt at 11 days post ovulation. I know im not pregnant. If i stop the progesterone tonight, will that make my luteal phase shorter, and thus should i stay on it even if i know im not pregnant for the normal length of time my luteal phase is to protect my luteal phase and not not make it shorter? Or will the luteal phase not be affected if i stop the progesterone a few days short of when the phase normally would end. I have had two recent early miscarraiges and the doctor thinks even though my progesterone test is 12.2, he thinks that my lining is not responding thickly enough to the progesterone i make, so that i need the crinone. Anyway, I just dont want to have to take this stuff any more during the cycle than i have too, i hate the discharge and if i know i am not pregnant a few days before my true luteal phase ends i would like to be able to stop it, but i am afraid my luteal phase will end up being adversly affected because i will have programmed it to end shorter by stopping the crinone early. I thank you graciously for your time! Kindest regards!
