Hi Trish, I am 27 and had high triple test results. 1 in 14 Downs and 1 in 25 Edwards. This was a big shock as I was 26yrs at the time. My dating ultrasound was accurate +/- 5 days but I was told this would make no difference to the result. Age is only one factor they take into account. They also take your weight, gestational age of the baby. They then take all of this and compare it to the amounts of hormones in your blood and then give you a risk factor. I had an amnio because I already have a severely disabled child and felt I needed to know one way or the other. I also had a very intense level 2 scan which came back fine and I think they are fairly accurate.I know there are certain markers they look for which can indicate a downs baby, my baby didn't have any and my amnio came back fine. I am sorry you have to go through this as it was one of the worst times in my life. If you did decided am amnio was the way to go there is a new test called the FISH test in which you get the results within 1 week (they withdraw amniotic fluid the same way).

Good luck Paula
