Urgent ? for Doctor re: Ecoli (Please!)From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Aug 2002 13:14:56 -0500 (CDT)
I delivered a very healthy, beautiful baby girl last Thursday. After having her, I got a pretty high fever. Since delivering my daughter, I have had a continuous fever ranging from 104 degrees. My fever just went down to 100 degrees, today. At first, I was told that I had a urinary tract infection. (The doctors and nurses said that it was because I had an epidural from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.). My doctor gave me several tests, and I stayed in the hospital until Sunday. Today, my doctor called and told me that I have contacted the ecoli virus. He made it seem as if contracting ecoli is pretty common after delivering. I have a few questions- Is ecoli common? If so, should my doctor have tested me for it earlier? I am currently breastfeeding. My doctor said that it is safe to continue doing so. However, my daughter has had a recent bought of diarrhea. Could the baby have contracted ecoli from me? Should I stop breastfeeding? Thank you very much!!! I am very concerned and really would like the opinion of another doctor.
