Terbutaline / Vistaril / Sulfamethoxazole - need advice/reassuranceFrom: Sierra (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 25 Aug 2002 11:57:50 -0500 (CDT)
I will start my 24th week tomorrow. On Thursday I went to the hospital because I was having frequent contractions. While being monitored, I was having as many as 12 contractions in an hour, but showed no signs of effacement or dilation. A biophysical profile was done on the baby and the only thing he didn't pass within the 30-minute alotted time period was breathing excercises - they told me not to worry about this because it was still too early for him to do this. I had a slight urinary tract infection and was put on Sulfamethoxazole (1 800mg tablet twice daily for five days). The nurse told me that the infection was possibly causing the contractions. I've been reduced to half-time at work and was prescribed 5mg of Terbutaline every 4 hours (to stop contractions)and 25mg of Vistaril every 4 hours (to calm the tremors and jitters from the Terbutaline). The contractions seem to have slowed down considerably. Is it possible that this much medication can harm my baby? Also, are the odds good that I will carry him to term? I've been very nervous bout the wellbeing of my baby. Any advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for the length of this post.
