Induction to prevent problems due to large babies has been studied extensively and shown not to work. Babies of diabetic mothers frequently have delayed lung maturation and may have problems even at 38 weeks.

Not surprising if the head isn't there anymore.

I don't know how true that is for transverse lie. It is true for breeches.
