There are many causes for yeast infections. Some common causes are use of antibiotics which destroy the normal vaginal bacteria that keep yeast in check, diabetes and diet high in refined sugars - yeast love sugar, pregancy because increased estrogen and pregesterone as well as sugar in the vagina, and people that are immunosupressed such as those with HIV/Aids or taking a corticosteroid drug(cancer patients). Also, tight clothing, and wearing underwear/pantyhose of synthetic material may elicit fungal growth. Lastly, some people are just more suseptible to them. Yeast infections can be differentiated from other infections by some of their symptoms such as discharge and itching. Doctors can test the pH and other things also to differentiate yeast from other infections if there is questionable syptoms.
