Breech PresentationFrom: Alisha (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Jul 2002 10:49:36 -0500 (CDT)
I am currently 34.5 weeks pregnant with my second child. With my first baby, I had a scheduled c-section because the baby - a male - was frank breech. The c-section was preformed in week 39 of my pregnancy. I have a fibroid tumor that had grown to 14X11X11 by week 37 of that pregnancy. The fibroid is located on the right side of my uterus along the side wall. To my knowledge it is not near my cervix. An external version was ruled out by my doctor because of the size and location of the fibroid. Fast forward 14 months later, I am almost full-term with son #2. This baby is also breech - footling this time. My doctor is talking about the possibility of attempting external version so I can try a VBAC. However it is my understanding that external versions are not safe when a woman has had a prior c-section. Is this true? If so, why? I want to have at least one more child so I do not want to chance damaging my uterus so that I would not be able to have more children. My fibroid at 27 weeks was 10X10. I haven't had any other ultrasounds since then so I don't know if it has grown any larger. Also is there some reason why I keep having breech babies? My understanding is that breech presentation is around 3% but so far I have a 100% rate! I read on the internet about a study that was done that showed that breech presentation was more prominent in male babies. Is there any truth in this theory? Or could it just be the fibroid that makes my babies breech?
