Where I live, an amnio, and review by geneticist, is around $2K. A late term amnio (which I've had to check for lung maturity twice)- was around $950 at one hospital, and $725 at another.

Jane's right, you can pay for it by yourself, but it is a rather large expense, if it isn't medically indicated.
