Colace vs. Metamucil for constipation

Hello,

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been having constipation to the point of discomfort. I took some Metamucil a few days ago, and it worked great. I was planning to take a dose daily, to avoid having the same problem, but I asked my OB/GYN today. He said Metamucil was OK if I was having a problem, but he recommended Colace instead of Metamucil for daily use. This is not what I see on this forum. Since the Metamucil worked so well, should I stick with it or listen to my doctor? P.S. this was the first time I saw this doctor.
