18w3d - uterine tightening and some pubic pain -- dr. please

I am currently 18w3d pregnant. Over the last few days I have noticed that occasionally my abdomen, from the bottom up to near the bellybutton, feels hard; other times it feels much softer and more "normal." I can feel when I put a hand on my abdomen -- there is no pain associated with this "hardening" (except this evening I had a brief, perhaps 1-minute crampiness, kind of like menstrual pain, on the left side, middle of the back) -- and also it seems to be associated with a general feeling of constriction or slight heaviness in the belly. Are these uterine contractions? If so, are they normal, or something to be concerned about?

In addition, don't know if it's related, but I have been having some pubic pain/discomfort when walking or getting out of bed the last few days -- right in front, just under the public hair. And I seem to be urinating more frequently than a couple of weeks ago.

So far, I have had a quite normal pregnancy -- heard the heartbeat last at 16w and dr. last checked cervix at 13w, and everything seemed fine.

I am very concerned that all this may be a sign of trouble. Should call the doctor or just wait 10 days until my regular appt.? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
