cystic hygromaFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Jun 2002 22:26:54 -0500 (CDT)
Today I found out through perinatalogist that my 14 wk LMP baby has some "fairly severe swelling" behind the neck. Also, he said there was some fluid starting to build in the abdomen. But the babies measurements, shapes and heartrate all look great! I am 35 and this is my first pregnancy. THe HCG readings had been very high at first, then dropped dramatically (I wrote in a couple weeks ago about this). Then I had some fluid with blood in it pass in the night, then some clear a week later. My questions are this: Is this child suffering at this time? What are the chances that this hygroma could be something that could get better? Could hygroma itself leave residual effects? How strong is just this one marker for chromosomal abnormalities, and what else could it be? I am scheduled to talk to a genetic counselor tomorrow, but I don't know if the amnio will be done now or if they want me to wait until 15 weeks (1 more week). I have heard that the results take 10 days to come back. Any solid information anyone can give would be a blessing. Thank you.
